Description
Etoricoxib Tablets
Etoricoxib tablets are used to manage pain, swelling, and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout in adults aged above 16 years. Apart from this, it is also prescribed to manage moderate pain following dental surgery. Osteoarthritis refers to a degenerative bone condition characterised by the degradation of the tissue that supports the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition where the immune system invades the tissue belonging to itself, resulting in joint pain and inflammation. Ankylosing spondylitis refers to inflammation of the spine and major joints. Gout is marked by pain and inflammation of the joints as a result of uric acid crystal deposition.
Etoricoxib has ‘etoricoxib’ as its active ingredient, which inhibits the release of a chemical transmitter named prostaglandin, synthesised by COX-2, that is the causative agent of pain, swelling, and inflammation. Etoricoxib acts locally at the site of the affected area and is particularly selective at the site of pain. The advantage of COX-2 inhibitors is that they guard the stomach lining against the ulcerogenic effect brought about by other analgesics, ibuprofen and aspirin.
Benefits:
- Etoricoxib has ‘etoricoxib’, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is both an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent.
- It is a COX-2 selective inhibitor. COX-2 enzymes are the ones that convert arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, which are the inflammatory mediators.
- Inhibition of COX-2 decreases the synthesis of prostaglandins, ultimately reducing inflammation and pain.
Uses:
- Etoricoxib treats inflammation in the joints and spine.
- Etoricoxib reduces joint inflammation due to autoimmune diseases.
- Etoricoxib is beneficial in the relief of pain following dental or other minor surgical procedures.
- Etoricoxib relieves joint pain caused by uric acid deposition.
